I have mixed feelings about posts that say “black female characters deserve to be saved and feminine frilly love interests like white female characters”. I agree to a point; we do deserve to be loved but we also need to be fully realized characters too. Those white female characters that are feminine damsels usually get the short end of the stick in writing.
I don’t want black women written to be subservient doormats because historically that has happened and it does not need to be idealized in a relationship. Not with white or black men.
